The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says young deer hunters set a record during the weekend's youth deer season. The hunters got just over 3100 deer. The numbers are well ahead of last year when hunters got 1853 deer. It's also about seven-hundred more deer than the record set three years ago. The DNR's Paul Shelton says hunters benefited from cool weather last weekend.
He says 51-percent of the deer harvested over the weekend were males and the rest were does. Meanwhile, the archery deer season is underway, The shotgun season for deer is about a month away. The first firearm season runs from November 16 through November 18 and the second season is November 29 through December 2.
