The next step in realizing a new Wood River Police Department is in the hands of British Petroleum. The new police department at the southwest corner of Highway 143 at 6th Street should take about 14 months to complete, but the city’s mayor says they are waiting on BP to take the next step.
Wood River mayor Frank Akers tells The Big Z it is a lengthy process, but worth it.

The new police station will be about 20-thousand square feet and will include a communications center, eight cells, a sally port, a workout room and locker room and a training facility that could be used by other departments.
