More than 500 graves will be decorated Saturday at the Alton National Cemetery on Pearl Street as part of the Wreaths Across America program. For more than two decades, the decorations have been placed at the Arlington National Cemetery and others across the country and this will be the eighth year for decorations in Alton.
This year, 4th grade students from St. Mary’s School will be paired with the veterans during the ceremony. Alton resident Margaret Hopkins is organizing the effort again and says it is an awe-inspiring ceremony.

The ceremony itself is scheduled for 11am Saturday December 13, and should last about a half hour at Alton National Cemetery.
