Family, friends and even strangers are expected to gather this afternoon at the Worker's Memorial at Gordon Moore Park. It is a ceremony to honor workers and remember those who died on the job. The first Workers Memorial Day was held in the United States on April 28, 1989, which coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
The day can trace its roots, however, to Canada four years earlier. The tribute happens late in the afternoon today.
