The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that there will be lane closures starting this week, in both directions, on Highway 255. The closures are necessary to complete micro surfacing on the pavement through July 31st of this year. The work will begin this week weather permitting.
Highway 255 from Illinois 143 near Wood River to Illinois 140 near Bethalto will have lane closures starting today. Supervising Field Engineer for IDOT John Adcock tells The Big Z about micro surfacing:

Micro surfacing is putting a thin layer of asphalt and cement placed down over the road, sealing it up and keeping water from infiltrating it. IDOT is asking that you use extra time when traveling near and through this work zone. The lanes will only be closed when workers are present and will reopen every night.
