The Wood River Halloween Parade takes place Saturday morning, October 29, starting at the Emerick Sports Complex onSixth Street. The parade will run south toFerguson, through downtown, then north onWood River AvenuetoCentral Park. The parade is more than a quarter of a century old this year, and there will be awards and cash prizes to winners in three different categories.
The parade is sponsored by the Wood River Fire Fighters Association, and the department Captain Brian Crawford says this year's parade will be one of the largest in recent memory.
The nearly 2-mile route should take around an hour for participants to complete, with prizes for best float and costume to be handed out at the end. Crawford says the best place to park would be the city parking lots just offFerguson Avenue, and guests should avoid blocking the driveway of homeowners when parking in residential areas.
