Two women from Arizona are facing charges in Madison County Court after they were arrested for allegedly transporting money in connection with the illegal drug trade. The suspects were pulled over by Illinois State Police on Sunday while traveling on I-55/70.
Authorities say 43-year-old Francisca Encinas and 38-year-old Yesenia Guillen are each charged with two counts of money laundering and are held in the Madison County Jail. State Police conducted a traffic stop on their vehicle on Sunday on southbound Interstate 55/70 in Madison County for speeding and an obstructed license plate. Upon speaking with the women, the officers developed reason to believe there could be drugs in the vehicle and began an investigation. Several hidden compartments were found in the vehicle with more than half a million dollars cash found inside those compartments. The women are being held without bond.
