A South Roxana woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for her son's death. 37 year old Patricia Cage pleaded guilty to one count of endangering the life of a child after leaving her son with her then boyfriend who beat the child, 4 year old Jeremiah Bradford, leading to his death in 2010. Sean Starwalt is currently serving a 38 year prison term for his role in the child's death.
Cage had also been charged with murder, but the charges were dropped in exchange for her guilty plea in the case settled in Madison County Court. Cage had left the home she shared with Starwalt and while she was gone, authorities say Starwalt severely beat the child. The young boy died when he was being taken to the hospital by the couple on September 25, 2010. Cage has been in custody since that day and will get credit for time served in the Madison County Jail, as well as a day off her sentence for each good day she serves in state prison.
