A Jonesboro, Illinois, woman who kidnapped four children from South Roxana last year is headed to prison. Thirty-one-year-old Amanda M. Lindsey will spend the next ten years behind bars for aggravated kidnapping. Lindsey abducted her cousin's three children and a neighbor's child from their South Roxana home last April.
Prosecutors say before the kidnappings, Lindsey had disagreed with her cousin about how to care for the children ages 4,5,8 and 9. She took the children from the home by sneaking in through a bedroom window, then was involved in a high speed chase with police from another department before being captured. Lindsey's attorney argued that the kidnapping charge was a stretch because his client was trying to protect the children from poor childcare. Lindsey had five prior felonies and has already served some prison time. Madison County Circuit Judge Charles Romani, Jr., issued the sentence.
