Corn and soybeans are almost finished in Illinois in 2012, with the latest weekly crop report showing 98 and 96 percent harvested, respectively.
“Rainfall accumulations were virtually nonexistent, and this was just the opposite from last week,” says Brad Schwab, director of the USDAs National Agricultural Statistics Service in Illinois.
Topsoil moisture is reported “adequate” in 75 percent of the state. Six inches down, 35 percent of the subsoil moisture carries that rating.
Schwab says winter wheat is in good shape, showing 74 percent emergence from nice, moist soil.
