It is the time of year for West Nile Virus to rear its ugly head but you can prevent the virus from being spread by being able to identify the virus as soon as possible. The Madison County Health Department, St. Clair County Health Department, and the East Side Health District have announced that mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile Virus have been on the rise over the last week. No dead birds submitted for lab testing from any of these three health jurisdictions have tested positive for West Nile Virus yet this season and to date, no human cases have been reported in illinois in 2015. West Nile Virus is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito that has picked up the virus by feeding on an infected bird.
