We are told to use a helmet when riding a bicycle, and even when using a motorcycle, but authorities in southern Illinois are now saying a helmet could protect you during a storm. A tornado killed one woman last week in Jefferson County, and Jefferson County Coroner Eddie Joe Marks says using a helmet might sound silly, but it could make a difference:
Marks says it was head trauma that killed a Jefferson County woman after a tornado struck her home last Friday. Jefferson County Sheriff Roger Mulch says that tornado is one of the rarest he's ever seen.
One woman and a family dog were killed in that twister, which had an EF-2 rating. The woman's home is the only one that was hit by the tornado.
