The Clark Bridge remains open from Alton into Missouri, but drivers can't avoid the water completely. New water is seeping onto southbound Highway 67 near the Lewis Bridge over the Missouri River.
St. Louis bound motorists were rerouted to the upper lanes of 67 out of Alton last night, but now the Missouri Department of Transportation is dealing with a new problem. MoDOT Engineer Larry Welty:
The speed limit on the two-lane upper road is 40 miles per hour, and now motorists have to slow down again to drive through the water. Many Z-1570 listeners are reporting traffic is at a crawl through West Alton in both directions. MoDOT is suggesting those who are sightseeing to wait until the weekend to avoid adding to the rush-hour congestion. Motorists are also reminded to avoid delays on Highway 67 by using alternate routes.
