A Guatemalan guide will be touring the Illinois American Water Plant in Alton today, and talking to representatives of the company, Alton's mayor, and state representative. Ruben Dario Gomez Gonzalez has been instrumental in a project to bring clean drinking water and sanitation to a village in the Central American country, and understands the value of water.
Illinois American Water partners with organizations like the Mustard Seed Peace Project and Water For People to help ensure all people have access to safe drinking water, according to water company spokesman Karen Cotton.
Ruben has been an archeological tour guide for over 20 years. He has presented in Rome, the Simi Valley in California, Rutgers University in New Jersey and at the University of Houston. During his time here, he will be speaking about his culture at community and education events.
