A meeting of the Alton Electoral Board with the challenge to Brant Walker's Mayoral bid the focus has been continued until next Tuesday, January 22. Walker's mayoral bid is being challenged by Donald Groshong, but after a 45 minute meeting on Monday, the hearing was continued for the purpose of more discovery.
Anyone with delinquent accounts is not allowed to run for public office, which is among the claims of Groshong's objection. Another is a Homestead Exemption Groshong claims Walker (pictured, bottom photo) was not eligible to use. Walker says the opposition is without merit.
The city council chambers was standing-room-only for the hearing, and a group of community activists picketed outside city hall (top photo) before the hearing in support of Walker. Next Tuesday's re-convened hearing will be held in the Alton City Council Chambers at 10am.
