Brant Walker says he is the man to lead Alton in the coming years. The Alton businessman formally announced his candidacy Tuesday morning outside his business, Strategic Search Services, on Brown Street. Walker was part of a four-man race for the job in the spring of 2009 when long-time Mayor Don Sandidge stepped away from the job.
Three years ago, Walker ran on a platform concentrating on the city's finances. This time around, he says finances are still on his radar, as is job creation and fighting crime.
Walker fell about 460 votes short of Tom Hoecht's total of nearly 1,900 votes. He says that in order to create jobs and foster economic growth, the city must refocus its business development strategy on small and medium-sized businesses that are invested in the city.
