Exercise more … stop smoking …volunteer. That sounds like a good line-up of New Year's resolutions.  From the United Way of Central Illinois, Springfield-based president John Kelker says volunteering can not only help others, but it can be a way to teach kids to give back.  “Not all volunteer activities are for families, and that’s OK, but it can be something you can introduce to a 12-year-old or a 10-year-old, so at least they understand that it's not all about me, and let's think beyond that and make some time for others,” says Kelker.

Kelker says the most important thing to remember is, even though feeding the hungry and sheltering the homeless seem to be big news at the holidays, the need is year-round.
