The Veterans’ Treatment Court in Madison County provides an inter-agency, collaborative, non-adversarial treatment strategy for Honorably Discharged Military Veterans currently involved with the criminal justice system.  The program is currently in need of mentors to assist the veterans, some who suffer from PTSD, psychological problems, and/or substance abuse problems.

Veterans’ Assistance Commission Superintendent Bradley Lavite says the court is just another service provided the county through a department that’s been around for decades:

Volunteer mentors are paired with a veteran to listen to concerns, make suggestions and assist in determining where needs may lie. The mentor then acts as a liaison to assure the veteran receives proper rehabilitation, correct paperwork, and appropriate contacts though the VTC.  For more information or to volunteer call 692-7040 extension 4554.
