The United Way's Southwest Illinois Division reports it has exceeded its local fundraising goal of $1.83-million. A number of agencies, companies, schools and unions pitched in to lift the final total to nearly $1.85-million. The Southwestern Illinois Division serves social service agencies and organizations throughout the River Bend and surrounding counties.
United Way spokesman Natasha Sakovich says the next order of business will be to divide the funding to the United Way-funded agencies.
Last month, the United Way Greater St. Louis has met its goal of bringing in 72-million dollars as part of its 2012 fundraising campaign. That is about a million dollars more than last year, and they surpassed that by about $20,000.
