Underage drinking is a serious problem in the U.S., and Madison County is no different. Over the past week, about a dozen underage drinking arrests have been made, and that has the Sheriff reminding anyone who will listen that his department lives by a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to those under 21 indulging in alcohol.
Getting a handle on underage drinking has been a goal of Madison County Sheriff Bob Hertz since the start of his administration. Recently, the number of arrests has dramatically increased, and Captain Will Dimitroff says it will likely continue now that school's out.
He says many of the busts are the results of calls to the anonymous tip line, which is 296-3000. Dimitroff says this is a public safety issue, and would rather deal with the numerous arrests that come from breaking up a party that working a fatal accident that resulted from underage drinking.
