A toddler nearly drowned after wandering away from his Edwardsville home with his twin brother Wednesday. After a frantic search, relatives eventually found them at a neighbor's pond near the 3900 block of Cherokee Trail; one child on the bank, another in the water. Officials don't know how long the child had been submerged before being pulled out and rushed to the hospital.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department reports receiving a 911 call just after 3pm yesterday from a woman who said her twin, 2 year old grandsons were missing. She said they had walked away from the residence, but as she was on the phone found one of the boys along the banks of a pond and the other in the water. Someone pulled the child from the water and began performing C-P-R with the help of the 9-1-1 Tele-Communicator until a sheriff's deputy arrived. An ambulance later transported the child to Anderson Hospital in Maryville, and then he was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital, where his condition was listed as critical. The boy found along the banks of the pond was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but is believed to be fine. The names of those involved have not been released by police.
