A pair of Jerseyville teens are behind bars today after allegedly holding up a convenience store at gunpoint. Investigators say 19-year-old Johnathon D. Klunk of the 400 block of Gettings entered the Medford Food Mart Friday morning around 5:45 wearing a face mask and demanded money after stating he had a gun. He was caught after a brief foot chase.
It is unknown how much money was placed in the bag he left the building with, but officers with the Jerseyville Police Departmen encountered him on the way out, and took him into custody after a brief foot chase. Klunk is charged with aggravated robbery, and is being held on $250,000 bond. 19-year-old Shane M. Laubscher of the 20,000 block of Victory School Road is also being held in lieu of a quarter-million dollars. Police say he was Klunk's transportation, so he is charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery. Medford Food Mart is located in the 200 block of North State Street, just a block north of the Jersey County Jail, where both men are being held.
