A new business is hoping to locate in the former Dixon Distributing facility in Godfrey, but there is some disagreement among village trustees as to how to make it happen.  Currently zoned B-4 Highway Business, the owners of what would be a light metals manufacturing plant is requesting a zoning change to M-2 General Manufacturing.  That led to a lengthy discussion at Tuesday night's Godfrey Village Board meeting.

Some trustees want to change what is allowed in an M-2 district, fearing if the metal business fails, a future owner could put a junkyard or a livestock operation on the property.  One faction wants to change what is allowed on M-2 after approving this change, while others feel they should keep the zoning as is, and pass a special use permit.  Trustee Mike Stumpf (pictured) expressed frustration over the whole process:

In the end, the proposal was given first reading, and Mayor Mike McCormick assured those involved the issue would be thoroughly researched and a solution would be offered at the next board meeting on September 18.
