A Troy, Illinois man is recovering from a what police say was a self inflicted gunshot wound suffered prior to a 14-hour standoff that lasted until early this morning. Officers from the Troy Police Department responded to a residence located in the 500 block of Woodthrush after recieving a call about an armed and suicidal man just before 10 a.m. Monday morning.
According to information provided by the Troy Police Department, the man barricaded himself in the home and refused to comply with requests to surrender from law enforcement. The ILEAS Special Response team responded to the scene and after the suspect cut off communications with police, they introduced a chemical irritant into the residence forcing him to walk out outside and surrender to law enforcement just after 2 a.m. He was transported to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.
