Sisters Mary and Anne Petroff came to Granite City in the early 1900's as daughters of Bulgarian immigrants. After a lifetime of saving their money, both died within the past decade after suffering from dementia. After years of research, next of kin were found and the Madison County Treasurer distributed the sisters' $1.36-million estate this week.

Prenzler distributed various amounts ranging from just over $3,300 to more than $110,000 on Monday. Most of the larger amounts went to Bulgaria, while the smaller amounts remained in Madison County, according to Prenzler.
