The Democrat who wants to be state treasurer says he's unconcerned about the top of the ticket of either party hurting his chances. In fact, State Sen. Mike Frerichs (D-Champaign) says he could work with, say, a Gov. Bruce Rauner.

“I worked in Champaign-Urbana and Danville and with Republican legislators for the last eight years,” Frerichs says. “In my time on the county board and as county auditor, we worked across the aisle. Well, this is campaign season. What the voters really want is someone who works to accomplish things. They're tired of 22-year incumbents who have spent their whole entire time criticizing the other side.”

If that last sentence is supposed to make State Rep. Tom Cross' (R-Oswego) seat warm, so be it. Cross is Frerichs' Republican opponent.

Frerichs stands by an attack he made over the American Future Fund’s donation to Cross. “You could look it up: that organization received 91 percent of (its) funding from the Koch brothers.”
