The Madison County Treasurer is calling for a bigger reduction in the county’s tax levy. Earlier this week, Madison County Board Chairman Alan Dunstan said the budget being proposed this month represents a property tax levy that is 2.3% lower than the current year. Kurt Prenzler says it could go even lower, calling for a reduction of 10 percent.
Prenzler tells The Big Z that is because the county traditionally levies for more than what is needed.

The budget being brought before the board at its November meeting is for just over $129-million. Last year’s budget was for $130.3-million. The budget will be voted on at the board’s November 18th meeting.
