Alton residents will soon see new trash cans being delivered to their homes. A new 9-year deal with Allied Waste to provide 25-thousand containers to Alton customers- one for trash and one for recycling- was approved last October. The first of the new cans and carts will be delivered in less than two weeks- on Monday, March 19.
Allied's Manager of Business Development, Susan Piazza says there will be plenty of information available to residents in anticipation of the April 1 target to switch over to the automated system.
The 95-gallon containers will be on wheels and will be lifted by an arm on the side of the trash truck. Trash pick up will be once per week, and recyclables will be picked up every other week. Some elderly or physically challenged residents may request a smaller, 65-gallon, trash can, and those wanting an additional can will pay $18 more per year.
