There is less than a week left to register for the 2012 Confluence Trash Bash. Volunteers will choose from three locations to clean the banks of area waterways. There is still space at the Chouteau Island on Chain of Rocks Road in Madison and the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge on the St. Louis side of the Mississippi River. Registration ends March 21.
The event itself is March 24 from 8:30am to noon. The location at Creve Coeur Park has been full for a couple of weeks, but Christine Favilla with the Sierra Club says her group will concentrate on Chouteau Island.
The mission of the Confluence Greenway organization is to work together to clean local streams and neighborhoods. After picking up litter, volunteers will return to the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge on the Missouri side for a free lunch and celebration. Prizes will be awarded to volunteers who find the weirdest, biggest, and most expensive trash that morning. For more information, call 462-6802, or log on to a link
