A 40-year-old transient has been charged following a series of alleged incidents over the weekend that made parents around Madison County uncomfortable. James Lopes is charges with three counts of Grooming and three counts of Disorderly Conduct. He is currently being held in the Madison County Jail pending a mental health evaluation.
According to charges filed by the Madison County State's Attorney, Lopes "knowingly used a computer on-line service to seduce, solicit, lure, or entice, or to otherwise engage a child's guardian in any unlawful sexual contact with a child" on three occasions from Friday through Sunday at different locations. Lopes got into a verbal altercation with someone on a business parking lot in Livingston, at which time deputies responded and took him into custody. He is being held on a $75,000 bond.
