Calling all government innovators: The government efficiency advocacy group Transform Illinois is taking nominations for Transformer of the Year.
Metropolitan Planning Council Communications Director Mandy Booth Burrell said Transform Illinois is a coalition of elected officials, and civic and research groups that are focused on making government more efficient and saving taxpayers money.
Burrell notes that the state has nearly 7,000 local governments, “some of which have not adapted to really serve what residents and businesses need today and all of which are really pressed to do that in light of budget issues and just changing times.”
Burrell said Transform Illinois’ second annual Transformers Award is now taking nominations for three categories: state-level transformers, local transformers and citizen transformers.
An awards ceremony is scheduled Oct. 5 in Chicago, “where we feature these great stories of local governments making changes to make things more efficient, and we hope that will also inspire additional communities to get on board with change and get their communities on board with change that we have even more nominations in 2017,” Burrell said.
Nominations are due Aug. 19 and can be submitted to the website TransformIllinois.org.
