The process of developing the former Wadlow Municipal Golf Course in Alton into a multi-modal transportation center is closer to reality, as an IDOT document leading to final approval of the site has been received. The common thinking has the former golf course hosting the new train station, and IDOT agrees at this point that will be the case.
Phil Roggio, Alton Director of Development and Housing, says the city has received IDOT's Final Draft Environmental Assessment.
The multi-modal transportation center comprised of a high speed rail station and Madison County Transit bus station, and limited commercial and residential development is being planned for the 55-acre site. The plan also calls for a new four-lane road to replace Golf Road, and an improved interchange at Homer Adams Parkway.
