The Marine-backed charity Toys for Tots is going to receive the benefits from an open house being held Saturday afternoon in Wood River. From 2-4pm, the Pitchford Funeral Home will accept new, unwrapped toys. Last year, they filled 18 boxes of toys for local children, and have set a gaol of 25 for this year.
Local organizer Glenn Heimer says he and his wife got started with the group 8 years ago, and it's grown ever since.
All toys and money collected through local events will stay in the St. Louis Area. Toys for Tots was started in 1947.
