Today’s is the 101st birthday of the 40th president. As most Illinoisans know, February 6th is synonymous with Illinois born President Ronald Reagan. In Tampico there’s no excuse for not knowing because Reagan was born there. Joan Johnson, director of the Ronald Reagan Birthplace Museum located on Main Street in Tampico.
She says the Reagan family started off from humble beginnings. “His father always worked as a clerk in the store on Main Street,” Johnson said. “The family lived in an apartment on Main Street.”

The Reagan family was on the move a lot. They left Tampico for Chicago then Galesburg, Monmouth, back to Tampico and finally Dixon. While in Dixon Ronald and his brother both attended Eureka College. The Ronald Reagan Trail, designated in 1999, hits winds its way through some of those towns.
Today, the Ronald Reagan Birthplace Museum and the Tampico Historical Society Museum, are celebrating Reagan’s birthday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Tampico. A celebration honoring Reagan’s birthday is also taking place today at Eureka College with several planned events.
