A major operator of shopping malls has announced it will not be open on Thanksgiving Day, adding to the list of national retailers deciding to give employees the holiday off. CBL & Associates Properties says it will close 73-malls on November 24 this year, including St. Clair Square.
West County Center, Mid Rivers Mall and South County Center will also be closed on Thanksgiving Day, reversing a trend of stores and malls remaining open on the holiday. Retailers with separate entrances at those malls could still open on that day, but many national chains have not yet announced their Thanksgiving Day plans. Electronics retailer hhgregg announced last week it would close on Thanksgiving Day, which followed an announced by the Mall of America in Minneapolis that it too would not be open that day. Locally, Alton Square Mall has not yet announced its plans. K-mart, which was one of the first to open on Thanksgiving Day, has also not announced its plans for holiday shopping.
