The River of Life Family Church in Alton is keeping with a tradition now 13 years old with the serving of a large Thanksgiving meal to the community November 26. It started as a meal of thanks following the 9-11 attacks in 2001 and served about 200 guests. The meal will run from 3-8pm one week from today.
More than 200 volunteers from the church will help serve the meal prepared by Chef Bob Brown that includes a full traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings including desserts, according to event coordinator Marilyn Pruitt.
The meal was first served at New Testament Fellowship church, but due to its popularity, moved to River of Life in 2004. Last year, close to 1,300 people turned out for the free feast. People are welcome to come in their own vehicles while others can ride busses to the church on Fosterburg Road.
