There is some potentially good news for employees at a local power plant. The Wood River Dynegy Energy coal-fired power plant has been ordered to stay open until another solution to shutting it down can be found. The mandate was issued by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator this (Thursday) morning.
IBEW Local 51 covers 76 employees at the plant. Union Business Manager Matt Moore tells The Big Z this is good news, but the future is still uncertain.

At a public forum on the possible closure held last month in Alton, it was learned that the fate of the plant is in the hands of the grid operator MISO, which is looking at a reliability study to determine whether or not the plant should be retired.
