In the Illinois House of Representatives, who can be more insulting?
The finalists, as nominated by one another, are State Rep. Lou Lang (D-Skokie) and State Rep. Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove).
After a contentious committee hearing into why Illinois’ secretary of education, Beth Purvis, is being paid out of the Department of Human Services budget, the two launched a war of words on the House floor on Friday.

Lang noted that, just as the hearing began, the governor’s office put out a news release accusing Democrats of sexism and conducting a sham hearing. “I STAND ON BEHALF OF THE WOMEN OF ILLINOIS!” Lang said. “THOSE COMMENTS WERE DEGRADING TO THE PROCESS, AND THEY MUST STOP!”
Sandack demonstrated confusion about the rules of the game. “I know folks are used to 5-on-3 hockey,” Sandack said, referring to the years-long domination of Democrats under the dome of the Capitol. “Well, I’m sorry. Now it's 5-on-4, and now that we’re in extra innings, it's now kinda 5-on-5.”
