Chris Hinkle The Alton Plan Commission vote against recommending a zoning change for a new tattoo parlor business downtown inspired a number of people to speak in favor of the plan in front of the Alton City Council Committee of the Whole.  No one spoke against the proposed move.  The owner of Grand Piasa Body Art and his supporters may find out their future at tomorrow night’s Alton City Council meeting.

The commission last month voted 4 in favor and 6 against making a positive recommendation to the Alton City Council.  Drew Mader, who is planning a music festival for Downtown this year, was blunt in his support for the shop moving to Broadway.

Opponents have said they were mostly concerned by the perception of allowing a tattoo parlor in that part of Alton.  Supporters called tattoo parlors mainstream and a great way to attract new and younger people to see what Alton has to offer.   The Alton City Council rarely goes against a planning commission recommendation.  The council meets tomorrow at 7:30pm.
