An Alton man who is believed to have shot himself during a police standoff over the weekend has died. 51 year old Roger Adams of the 3000 block of Forest Drive, held police at bay for about 10 hours on Saturday at Schneider-National in the Gateway Commerce Center off Highway 255 in Edwardsville.  According to Edwardsville Police, Adams died of his injuries last night at a hospital in St. Louis.

Before the standoff, Adams allegedly drove a tractor-trailer into the business and set several fires inside the building. About 50 law enforcement and other emergency personell were called to the scene, and many could be seen from the highway. Meanwhile, Alton police were forced to evacuate Adams' neighborhood Saturday afternoon when neighbors grew suspicious that a bomb may be inside the residence after Adams had painted "booby trapped" and "keep out" on the exterior of the residence. Alton police probed the house and did not find anything that resembled a bomb, but did find several indications that the house was rigged to catch fire.
