Thousands rallied in Springfield Wednesday in support of concealed carry legislation, which is up for another try this year, after falling six votes short last year. Advocates are saying this could be the year the measure passes.   Although some Chicagoans were in attendance, many rally-goers say Chicago lawmakers are keeping Illinois from joining the rest of the nation in allowing concealed carry. One such person is gunsmith Joe Bland from Fidelity.

“The biggest problem people in Chicago have is that people up there don’t understand what we’re going through down here,” he says. “They don’t understand our way of life and they’re intruding on our way of life.”   Tom Lutz of Wenona says he needs a way to protect himself and his family… in fact, he says one woman he met at the rally put that right to use. “So she ended up buying a gun and it turns out 10 years later she had to shoot two guys who were in here basement,” he says.

A concealed carry bill recently passed a House committee and is awaiting a floor vote.
