Students in Lewis & Clark Community College's YouthBuild Program are cleaning up and rebuilding parts of an Alton neighborhood.  The Central Avenue Beautification Project began earlier this year, focusing on the repair and beautification needs of private and commercial properties from Statehouse Square to 4th Street.

Lewis & Clark Community College's Director of Building Futures Sabrina Davis says the work will be done at no cost to homeowners.  She tells The Big Z a church mission group recently volunteered their time.

The plan is to not only improve the existing structures, but to build a pocket park at the corner of 4th Street and Central Avenue.  The plan is to spruce up 60 homes, with total work estimated to cost about $30,000.
