Students at Alton Middle School had a chance to prepare for a natural disaster on Thursday. Sixth graders from the Illinois House inside the school took part in the event that was planned by not only some of the teachers but also a group of student leaders. World Youth Service of America provided funding for some of the activities in the form of a grant, and local first responders also took part.

The Alton Salvation Army, Alton Fire Department, and Alton Memorial Hospital were among the community groups that took part in the Disaster Preparedness Day along with about 270 students.
