Severe weather pushed through the St. Louis area on Wednesday afternoon and evening, leaving behind a mess for some in the Riverbend but for the most part this area was spared serious damage. A Belleville man died after he came into contact with a live wire behind his home yesterday afternoon and was electrocuted.
Authorities say it appears the man, who has not been identified, was trying to remove tree limbs and came into contact with the line which he may not have seen. He died at the scene. Elsewhere, power was knocked out for about 54-thousand Ameren Illinois customers in the Metro East on Wednesday, mostly to the south of the Riverbend. There are still about 32-thousand without power this morning, mainly in the Edwardsville and Glen Carbon areas, down to Granite City, parts of St. Clair and Monroe counties and then off to the south and east. About a half inch to an inch of rain fell on the Riverbend during the fast-moving storm.
