Friends and family members of Illinois State Trooper James Sauter are mourning their loss today. Sauter was killed last Thursday night after a semi slammed into the back of his patrol car on I-294, near Northbrook. The trooper's patrol car and the semi both burst into flames on impact.
His visitation is being held this afternoon with a funeral service tomorrow morning. He's the second Illinois State Police trooper to die in the line of duty in five months following the death of Trooper Kyle Deatherage of Highland who was struck by a semi on I-55 north of Litchfield last November during a traffic stop.
