Heavy rains and tornadoes mean many parts of Illinois are receiving help from state agencies.

Illinois Emergency Management Agency spokeswoman Patti Thompson says one area the state is currently focused is providing sandbags and sandbagging tools for towns along the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers threatened by flooding due to heavy rains.

“Illinois hasn’t been spared practically in any other part of the state with the heavy rainfalls we’ve been seeing the last few weeks,” Thompson said.

The agency is also coordinating support for areas in Lee and Grundy Counties affected by tornadoes earlier in the week, with other state departments assisting with security and damage assessments.
