The Illinois State Police may conduct roadside safety checks in St. Clair and Madison Counties during the month of June in an attempt to curb drunk drivers. Safety checks are designed to keep roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road. Alcohol and drug impairment are significant factors in over 40 percent of all fatal motor crashes in Illinois.

Roadside safety checks are effective tools for generating voluntary compliance with DUI laws by the motoring public.
