The complainant in the case against Illinois Auditor General Frank Mautino said the record needs to be set straight -- the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE) isn’t investigating anything. Streator resident David Cooke is retired and has some time on his hands, but he’s not an attorney and has requested a 30-day extension in the case he brought before the ISBE, raising questions into Mautino’s campaign spending from when he was a state lawmaker.
While there is a federal criminal investigation into the matter, Cooke said people are under the impression that the state elections board is also investigating.

ISBE General Counsel Ken Menzel confirmed there is no elections-board probe underway. The ISBE will take up Cooke’s extension request , as well as another request from Mautino to stay the looming public hearing.
