Gov. Pat Quinn joined other Illinois politicians to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Speaking at Quinn Chapel African Episcopal Methodist Church in Chicago – where King himself once spoke – Gov. Quinn emphasized that there’s work to be done to achieve that dream.

“He spoke to all of us today and forever,” Quinn said. “His words will never be forgotten.” This gathering was one of more than 50 such gatherings around the country. Like those other events, a bell was rung at 2 p.m. Central Time, the minute when King’s speech ended with the words “let freedom ring.”
