Illegal immigrants will soon be looking to purchase auto insurance policies in Illinois, now that that they've been given the right to drive legally. State Farm Spokeswoman Missy Dundov says they'll use normal underwriting guidelines to ensure the immigrants get the best possible coverage.
Records indicate unlicensed immigrant drivers cost 64-million-dollars in Illinois damage claims each year. Dundav says State Farm doesn't monitor how many of their customers have been hit by unlicensed or uninsured immigrants, so it's hard for them to determine how big of an issue it is. The immigrants can start applying for temporary licenses in November and they'll have to carry insurance in order for the license to be valid.
